Clay Test

I am investigating clay around here. This is the one of the sample fired by David's kiln, cone 10. It came out nice. This area has a long tradition about pottery, because of the clay. It is very interesting. I will keep investigating clay.

The Workshop at Cub Creek Foundation in VA

Donna Polseno, Silvie Granatelli had a workshop at the Cub Creek Foundation. Ellen Shankin was supposed to come but unfortunately she could not, because she had a back problem. Both of them are professional potter from Floyd, VA, which is a kind of pottery village. Silvie was showing throwing technique and Donna was showing slab building. It was 2 days workshop, but we just attended 1 day, because Hitomi had a job on Sunday. Anyway, as we can see it was good workshop for functional potters.

My Jar

In 2003, we had a workshop at The Cub Creek Foundation. At that time I made a large jar. After that professor Randy Edmonson at longwood university has been keeping it. Thank you very much! We brought back it to Seagrove and fire it in David's kiln this time. Unfortunately, it has crack on the surface and rim, but it came out interestingly. The jar has been waiting firing for 2 years, I am happy I could be able to fire it. Thank you for everybody for helping it.

Unload the kiln

September 7th. David was unloading the kiln. He got a lot of great pots. But back side of the kiln was a little bit under fired, so some pots which were from back were a little dry. His show at NC pottery center start September 10th on Saturday. It is going to be great show.
