Kiln Building Update 11/15

Almost for a week, it was rain and cold and very miserable weather, but finally we got sunshine and also warm last weekend. We did a little bit work for our kiln on Sunday afternoon. There were three layers left on the second chamber, and we did finished it up in several hours.

Finally closed up!

Now we really need kiln shed extension ASAP, and hope Team Tony will come and do it sooner.

Lots of leaves

Kiln Building Update 11/8

On Saturday, Andres, David, and Santiago came to help our kiln building again. We worked on exit flue and chimney. Lots of bricks, sand and kiln clay, and lots of cutting bricks. It must be very tiring and a lot of work, but those guys seemed having joy (and also backache after work). It was the last Saturday with Andres and he is going to back to Estonia next week. We will miss those wonderful Saturdays with Andres very much. I cooked very ordinary Japanese dishes for lunch and made one plate for everyone, and we had fun lunch time together. We will miss Saturday Lunch with him, too.

David and Andres almost finished David's new wood kiln. It's just a month since they started stacking bricks, and they built a very beautiful kiln.

Thank you very much for your help. We are very lucky people who learned a lot from Andres, and we will pround of ourselves that we are in "Team Andres".

On Sunday, we worked on exit flue part. We have used so many bricks for Anagama, second and third chambers, but we saved longer bricks for this area as a lid. Chimney will need probably three or four more pallets of bricks, and hope we have enough to get all work done.

Kiln Building Update 11/1

It was wet and dark morning, but we had to work on kiln. Andres came to help us on Saturday 9am, and we could have a lot of progress because of his help. Andres taught many things and we are very fortunate to see his kiln building technique. We have to cut many bricks into very complicated shape to be fit under the arch, and Andres cuts bricks very easily, fast and perfect always. It's just amazing work.

Those photos are on Saturday (10/31).
Those are on Sunday (11/1).Takuro almost finished the second chamber wall except three more layers on Sunday, and it seems we will move on to exit flue and chimney sooner. We might be able to finish most part of our kiln by Dec. We'll see.
